As we move further into June, we wanted to share several updates to help divisions, departments, offices and individual employees continue to prepare for more familiar campus operations in the fall.  

Update: Telework and Flexible Work Schedule Options

As Chancellor Sartarelli shared in a May 14 communication, leadership teams in each division, the Campus Operations Workgroup and Human Resources are focused on the process to implement our updated Teleworking and Flexible Work Schedule Guidelines (PDF). The vice chancellors are reviewing information gathered over the past week from divisional leaders. As plans continue to evolve, more information about next steps will be shared in the coming days through divisional communication channels. 

Pandemic-related concerns, such as limited access to eldercare and childcare, may continue to prove challenging for some employees in the coming weeks. Supervisors are encouraged to take such concerns into account when working with employees on their return to campus plans. 

Return to Campus Guidance

As previously communicated, UNCW looks forward to welcoming most employees currently teleworking back to campus between June 14 and July 6. Some employees may not return to campus until early August (but no later than the start of the academic year on Aug. 9). Please keep the following guidance in mind as you prepare for and participate in this transition:

• Most campus buildings will be unlocked during standard working hours starting June 14.
• Bring your UNCW One Card and/or keys with you to campus when you return.
• Campus equipment that has been dormant for months may need updates, service or repairs to function properly. Allow extra time for potential delays and follow guidance from ITS and other units regarding service requests. If possible, plan to bring equipment back to campus or power on dormant equipment prior to your return to ease your technical transition. If you have any issues or concerns, please start a Live Chat session with the Technology Assistance Center or enter a ticket to request one-on-one help with your return.
• Reminder from Parking and Transportation: no payroll deduction will occur for the months of June and July for faculty and staff enrolled in parking permit payroll deduction. Those who opted-out of the current academic year permit may also park for free in June and July to assist with the return to campus. Academic year 2021-22 permit registration will begin in June, with permits active on August 1.

The well-being of our campus community remains a top priority. Please be aware of the following health and safety guidance:

• Based on CDC and NC DHHS guidelines, face coverings are not required at UNCW except for certain health, youth and transportation areas and services. See this information for more details. Please remember that students may not be carrying face coverings around campus, and the absence of masks does not mean that student-serving units should deny anyone in-person services.
• Individuals who have not received a COVID-19 vaccination are still encouraged to wear a face covering indoors to protect themselves and others.
• Vaccinated individuals may also choose to wear face coverings if they prefer.
• Please carry a face covering with you as you traverse campus in case you end up needing one for any reason. 
• If a colleague asks you to wear a face covering when in their office/work area, please honor their request as a courtesy to that person. They may be protecting their own health and/or the health of others at home.

Thank you for the grace under pressure that you have exhibited since the pandemic began. You have navigated this situation with flexibility and patience, and both of those skills will remain invaluable as we continue to emerge from the pandemic’s ongoing impact on our lives. We are grateful for your dedication and service to our students, our community and to each other.
