Work continues on Hwy 70 slide; crews working in dangerous conditions - Plumas County Newspapers

takingmong.blogspot.com

Work continues at the slide closure on Highway 70 in the Feather River Canyon near the Butte/Plumas County Line.

Scaling operations to remove loose rock were conducted last week, with the contractor bringing in personnel via helicopter to scale from the top down. Breakdown of debris into manageable sized material is underway in the area, as many of the boulders from the slide are the size of vehicles and larger.

Caltrans and the contractor continue to work long shifts to break down and remove material and are hopeful to have one lane open with 24/7 traffic control in the next 2-3 weeks, weather and safety permitting.

Caltrans thanks the traveling public and locals for their continued patience during this slide closure. Roadway conditions are available 24/7 via QuickMap or by calling 1-800-427-7623.
