Celebrations of the Chinese Lunar New Year were held in Chinatown, Yangon on February 5 and Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein and Chinese Ambassador for Myanmar attended the ceremony.

Phyo Min Thein said, "Today is the day of the Chinese Lunar New Year. People need to consider about the past and all citizens need to cooperate in development sectors. We have to strive for our future, for the development of the country and for long-lasting relationship between Myanmar and China. We are trying to create a situation for a democratic transition. All citizens will try for the development of the country in that period. People of different religions and races are living in our country. Yangon is a big port and the commercial hub of Myanmar. It is very important for the economic development of Myanmar. I urge people to be united for the development of Yangon. The collaboration of Chinese people living in Myanmar is also important for the development of our country. I am wishing for the development of our country by the cooperation of China-Myanmar relation and for the arrangements of China-Myanmar economic corridor."

Chinese Ambassador said, "This year is the Year of the Pig. We met at Chinatown to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year. May Myanmar people be healthy and wealthy! We have been celebrating the festival at Chinatown for three years now. The celebration is teeming with crowds for year by year and participation of people is bigger than previous years. The festival provided convergence of family members and celebrated by a whole country. China and Myanmar are friendly neighbours and are building China-Myanmar economic corridor."

Yangon Region Chief Minister, Chinese Ambassador and guests looked around the performances and feasts given in charity for all comers after the opening ceremony. The festival is crowded with lion and dragon dances.

The Region Chief Minister, Chinese Ambassador and officials prayed by burning incenses at Chinese communal temple in Lathar Township.
