ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- As local schools are now reopening in the area, another kind of opening is taking place -- facilities serving adults with disabilities.
Solutions at Work (SAW Inc.) announced Wednesday (Aug. 26) the reopening of its five adult activity centers in Cuyahoga County, including the one on Detroit Road in Rocky River.
The organization is following the guidelines of cleaning and social distancing to “ensure the health and safety of individuals, staff and their families,” according to SAW CEO Judy Carey.
“We are following all state and local healthcare guidance to ensure we can provide these essential services in the safest way possible,” she said.
She noted that the centers, to date, have had no COVID-19 cases.
“While SAW has always prided itself on creating a safe, clean, accessible, welcoming environment in which to deliver excellent programming, further measures include thoroughly cleaning buildings twice a day and sanitizing surfaces often,” she said.
Carey noted the practices in place now at each location:
“In accordance with Ohio law, everyone must always wear a mask inside the buildings. Temperatures are taken upon entering and exiting each facility.
“To follow social distancing recommendations, individuals are organized into groups or ‘pods’ of 10. Each pod has a designated entrance, exit, bathroom and pathway inside the building. Within each pod, individuals maintain social distance and use their own separate supplies for each activity.
“All staff members have been properly trained, and SAW continues to have a full-time nurse on staff.”
During the time the centers were closed, Carey said, efforts were made to continue servicing their clients by maintaining regular contact.
“We made a strong effort to continue serving individuals virtually through methods such as e-newsletters, social media, online events and therapy visits while the centers were closed,” she said.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide full services to new and returning participants in person now that we’re reopened. The employment opportunities, activities and level of care our experienced staff can offer in person is unmatched and critical to bringing out the best in each person they work with.”
SAW is a non-profit organization offering vocational rehabilitation services, group employment and several adult day-service facilities in Northeast Ohio, according to the organization’s information.
“SAW improves the quality of life for its individuals by hiring and maintaining experienced and caring professionals, managing safe and welcoming facilities, and developing daily activity programs that help individuals thrive. As a trusted provider, SAW’s unwavering commitment to adults with developmental disabilities and their families allows each participant to work toward achieving their full potential.”
