1. TELL US YOUR STORY... WHY ARE YOU IN THE BUSINESS YOU ARE IN? 

What lead to you being here? We were born of a mother’s desperate search for healing; As a young mother, our founder was told that her son wouldn’t live past a year--maybe two—due to kidney failure. In a desperate search for a natural remedy, she formulated our Kidney Support and Kidney Toner formulas and, in doing so, unintentionally formed Mountain Meadow Herbs. Her son is now a healthy young man and living his best life! Officially founded in 2001, Mountain Meadow Herbs has since become an advocate and trusted source of superior health and natural healing. Our broad product line of over 60 products (and 130+ single extracts) include numerous remedies specifically formulated for individuals who reached out to us in their own desperation after hearing our story. Our products have stood the test of time and have been used again and again by some nearly 100,000 active customers who make up our main customer base. Our herbal products are carried in over 300 retail stores nationwide and we have distributors in the US, Canada, and Singapore.

2. DO YOU HAVE ANY MENTORS THAT YOU LEAN ON FOR ADVICE, GUIDANCE OR TO BOUNCE IDEAS OFF OF?

Within the company, we all lean on each other. We have a wonderful, diverse team bringing unique skills. Beyond that, there are a number of local professionals that some of us individually turn to for advice--from connections we’ve made through Biz to Biz, to people we work with from other companies in some capacity. The wonderful thing about the Flathead Valley is that people are always willing to help, offer advice, and generally go out of their way to help others succeed.

3. WHAT’S THE MOST EXCITING THING THAT HAPPENED IN YOUR BUSINESS OR INDUSTRY THIS YEAR?

In December of 2018 the Farm Bill was passed by the Federal Government, laying the groundwork for companies to manufacture and sell products derived from Hemp and that contain cannabinoids (often referred to as CBD). There are still many restrictions as to what and how you can market, but when done properly and within the regulations, companies like us can now offer extracts of this incredibly beneficial plant. Almost immediately, there was an uptick in the sale of CBD products, even gas stations carry this product. A vast majority of companies are not doing enough research into what is exactly legal and not legal, so many of them have been (or are being) fi ned and the FDA is pulling the products off the shelf. But, companies like us, who have taken the time to do our due diligence, and are following the very-specific guidelines, will now be able to start offering this product and its benefits. Our Hemp Extract and Hemp Capsules will be available in January 2020, and are made from organic hemp grown on a farm in Dayton, Montana – one of 277 farms registered with the Montana Department of Agriculture to grow hemp.

4. WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2020? ARE THERE THINGS IN YOUR BUSINESS OR INDUSTRY THAT YOU ARE ANTICIPATING?

2020 will be the first full year that our entire operation is fully-functional. We completed the construction of the Mountain Meadow Herbs Center in Somers last June and enjoyed an amazing grand opening and really successful summer and fall. It has exceeded our expectations, especially with the popularity of the Mountain Café that continually gets busier and busier. We’re anxious to see what 2020 brings while we continue To grow, offering fresh, new, and exciting things on this side of the Valley.

5. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BUSINESS IN THE NEXT YEAR? IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS? THE NEXT TEN YEARS?

We have big goals and dreams for the future. As we continue to grow, we’re finding that we need additional production space and a larger warehouse to ship out of. Initial plans have been made for what our expansion will look like, when the time comes. For now, we are focused on our local market and providing natural health solutions to our community.

6. WHAT’S THE KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS IN THE INDUSTRY YOU’VE CHOSEN?

When we first started in the herbal supplement industry, we were one of the few doing what we do – creating a liquid herbal extract as opposed to a capsule or tablet. However, in those nearly-20 years since we started, the market has become saturated with similar companies. What sets us apart though, is the quality of not only the products that we create, but of the customer service that we provide. Our method of extraction is our very own proprietary and unique process. Extensive lab testing has proven its superiority to other methods being used in the industry, and the taste is better compared to other extracts too! Beyond that, we pride ourselves in our customer service and it has, and always will be, our top priority. We have customers who call just to talk because they are having a bad day and just need someone to talk to. The bottom line is that we care about our customers! They are important and how we care for them is important to us.

7. WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A BUSINESS OWNER, OR A CHALLENGE YOUR INDUSTRY HAS PRESENTED TO THAT YOU’VE OVERCOME?

As a supplement company, as opposed to pharmaceuticals, we are very limited in what we can say to promote our products. While we know, from centuries of use and even from some scientific studies, particular herbs and herbal combinations provide certain benefits. We cannot specifically make health claims about our products, though. It requires us to be creative in how we present our products, providing our customers enough information to guide them in the understanding of certain herbs and what benefits they can provide. What we CAN do is to provide the most potent, pure, and effective extracts on the market – which is what we strive to do every day.
