TRAVERSE CITY — Michele Worden and Sandi Clark, members of the herb study group Herbal Renewal and the Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan, will speak on growing herbs in the Garden.
The discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the March 3 meeting of the Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan, held at the Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road.
An optional potluck will be served at 6 p.m.
Worden resides in Grand Traverse County, and has been a Master Gardener since 2003, and member of Herbal Renewal and Michigan Herb Associates since 2004. Since moving to Traverse City, Michele has served as a garden instructor in the Traverse Area Children's Garden as well as six area elementary schools gardens as a Farm to School instructor.
Worden's educational background is in chemistry, chemical engineering and business from the University of Michigan, and has worked in the chemical and technology industries. She currently works with area nonprofits and lives in the woods in Traverse City with her husband and two teenage children.
She will give an overview of herbs and talk about growing them in the garden.
Clark resides in Interlochen with her husband, and earned her Advanced Master Gardener status 19 years ago in Kent County. She is a member of Midwest Michigan Herb Association and served as the MSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program Coordinator in Ionia County for seven years.
She loves to write and studied English at Michigan State University. Sandi will demonstrate four herb propagation techniques and a DIY system for nurturing cuttings.
"There is so much interest in growing herbs, but a lack of speakers in our area," said Worden, president of the Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan. "We felt the need to share what we have learned.
The Master Gardener Association of Northwest Michigan (MGANM) furthers the horticulture education activities of MSU Extension through monthly educational presentations.
Meetings are held monthly on the first Tuesday of the month and are open to the public.
A $5 donation from non-members is appreciated. For certified master gardeners meeting attendance earns credits toward volunteer and education hours.
